Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

power & wealth
(and really,
aren’t they
two sides of
the same tarnished
coin?)
suck the life
out of all
they acquire.
starving, desperate
for anything
to sustain them,
they demand
more
more
more.
enough cannot be
for them.
simply to hold
is to empty.
they starve,
but they do so
lavishly,
in palaces of gold
built on the corpses
of those they rule.
the music is lovely
and everything
glitters.
what a delightful way
to destroy
the world.
