Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

i am happy to live
in a world without god.
don’t get me wrong.
i would like to live forever,
and i sure as hell
would prefer heaven to hell.
i mean: duh.
at least that part
is no concern;
going to hell, that is.
ain’t no hell to go to.
so, the little disappointment
of death being total aside,
i choose to live free
of the burden
of god.
i choose to live free.
it’s not easy,
but god was way more difficult.
being owned by god was awful.
it took many years
without god
to understand that
without god
i was at last
alive.
and alive i continue onward.
the journey, however long,
will be far too short,
but at least
it will be my journey.
my life.
not the property
of some fake god
made up by fools & liars
who refuse to admit
that however scary death may be,
never being alive
is far, far worse.
