if i were to admit regret
about the choices i made
years ago in my youth;
if i were to wish
i had had the courage
to make the choices
i ran from;
if i were to envision
a different life
in a different place –
a different me;
then i would have to also
wish you out of existence,
my two lovely sons.
my life has not been a good one
except for this:
there is you,
my two lovely sons.
the fact that i got to be
your father
and love you
obliterates
all possibility
of regret.
