Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

who i am
is not
who i want
to be.
the problem is
i am
who i am.
that’s all.
fighting that truth
doesn’t work.
it never works,
running, hiding.
my reality is:
i am
here and now,
i am.
the only way
to live,
to be alive,
whole, well,
is to accept
the me
that is here,
the me
that is here,
the me
that is now
right here.
“oh, it’s you”
i’ll say,
and i won’t
run away,
and i won’t
look away.
it means everything,
accepting myself.
at long last,
i’m whole.
now my life
is honest.
now my life
can begin.
