Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

some people can afford
for life to be unfair.
literally.
i cannot.
i cannot pull out
a piece of plastic
to undo the damage
of being among
the world’s detritus.
when life gives me lemons,
they’re in a crate
falling off the back of a truck,
smashing into me
as i’m bicycling,
sending me crashing
into the asphalt and gravel,
with no chance
of making lemonade
or any other
happy horseshit.
i cannot buy my way
out of the hassles
and destruction
when life dumps
a load of the unfair
on me.
it’s far worse
than just an opportunity
to whine about it
on Facebook.
