Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

this morning,
this setting
deserves the touch
of a true poet.
instead,
here’s me
giving it my best
without the benefit
of an MFA.
the sky’s blue, filtered
through a gauze
of near-invisible clouds.
the trees in their
lush summer variety.
the birds at the feeder,
finches and jays
for the most part.
(i chased away the squirrel
earlier: hey, asshole!
yelled as i ran across the deck.)
the sound of the interstate
only a quarter-mile away.
a near-perfect morning.
