Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

outside my window,
the neighbor’s AC unit
runs day and night,
a low hum topped
by a metal whir,
and i tell myself
this is an opportunity
to practice letting go
of unnecessary irritations,
but i also know
i’d welcome
an occult event
where that house
and that goddamn machine
suddenly disappear
into the void
and in their place
a somewhat spooky copse
or a deserted mansion
or even a patch
of nothingness
everyone avoids
because they just know
to avoid it.
i can do without
this many opportunities
to practice letting go
of unnecessary irritations.
i would welcome
more opportunities
to explore
a life less irritating,
with a few more niceties
and a bit more quiet.
