confronting
what i would
rather ignore
until it
disappears forever –
but fear doesn’t
work that way.
it never goes away.
fear finds
new & clever ways
to bring the pain.
take it on head first
like a john wayne gunfight;
another method
for letting fear win.
fear fights dirty;
i’d never win that way.
instead, i am told:
look it in the eye.
admit it to be
exactly as it is,
from white-noise brain
to knot-clenched gut.
then look past it.
fear is just a thing,
like the clutter
on my desk
i have no trouble
looking past
day after day.
i’ll clean it up later,
i think,
as i get on
with my life.
